Kamishin Kempo Karate Jutsu

Kamishin Kempo Karate is primarily a self-defense system using not only the hard style kicks, strikes, and blocks of Karate but also the jointlocks, takedowns, and throws associated with Kempo and Jujitsu.

Kamishin Kempo Karate begins as a straight-line system where the students are taught crisp, clean movements and techniques through line practice, Kata, and one-steps using the 25 required “rotations” and other self defense techniques.

As the student progresses he/she will be introduced to the more circular movements of Kempo/Jujitsu techniques.  At the higher Kyu levels the student may be introduced to weapons such as the Bo.

The late Dr. Albert C. Church, inheritor of the Shorinji Tetsuken Ryu system, developed the Shorinji Kata that are practiced from the Pinan Kata.  The Chinese origin of the Kata and style is reflected by the use of the “vertical fist” throughout the Kata.

Other Kata used at the black belt dan levels include:  Shorinji Dai Godan (1, 2, and 3), Tekki (1, 2, and 3), 2-man set, Wansu, Bassai Dai, Ro Hai, and Tai Han Chin.
